Description
A delicious and easy recipe for creamy queso rice with juicy steak strips that’s sure to please.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound juicy steak strips (sirloin or flank steak works well)
- 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
- 1 cup queso cheese (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
- Sliced jalapeños, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the steak strips with salt, pepper, chili powder, and cumin. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
- Stir in the cooked rice, making sure to mix it well with the onion and garlic. Allow it to heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and pour in the queso cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and evenly coats the rice.
- Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet. Gently fold them into the cheesy rice mixture until everything is combined and heated through.
- Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or spices to your liking.
- Remove the skillet from heat. If desired, garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced jalapeños for an extra kick.
- Transfer the creamy queso rice and steak mixture to a serving dish, and enjoy it while it’s hot!
