Description

A delicious and easy recipe for creamy queso rice with juicy steak strips that’s sure to please.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound juicy steak strips (sirloin or flank steak works well)
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 cup queso cheese (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
  • Sliced jalapeños, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the steak strips with salt, pepper, chili powder, and cumin. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the cooked rice, making sure to mix it well with the onion and garlic. Allow it to heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and pour in the queso cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and evenly coats the rice.
  5. Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet. Gently fold them into the cheesy rice mixture until everything is combined and heated through.
  6. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or spices to your liking.
  7. Remove the skillet from heat. If desired, garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced jalapeños for an extra kick.
  8. Transfer the creamy queso rice and steak mixture to a serving dish, and enjoy it while it’s hot!
