Description

These homemade butter mints are soft, creamy, and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Gel food coloring, optional (1-2 drops per color)

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened butter with a hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the heavy cream, peppermint extract, vanilla, and salt and beat until fully combined.
  3. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until a soft, dough-like mixture forms that no longer sticks to your fingers.
  4. Divide the dough into portions and tint each one with gel food coloring as desired.
  5. Roll each portion into thin 1/2-inch ropes on a lightly powdered-sugar-dusted surface.
  6. Cut the ropes into small pillow-shaped pieces and arrange them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  7. Let the butter mints dry at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, or until firm to the touch.
  8. Transfer the set mints to an airtight container for storage.

  • Make sure to sift the powdered sugar to avoid lumps in your mixture.
