Key Ingredients for Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Butter: I use unsalted butter for its rich, creamy flavor. It’s the secret ingredient that adds moisture and helps bind all the elements of this giant chocolate chip cookie together. Just remember to soften it to room temperature, making for easy mixing.

Brown Sugar: Using light brown sugar not only sweetens the cookie but also infuses a hint of caramel flavor that elevates the entire taste experience. Plus, it’s responsible for that delightful chewy texture we all adore in cookies.

Egg: A single large egg provides essential moisture and functions as a binding agent, contributing to the cookie’s overall structure and mouthfeel.

Flour: I stick to all-purpose flour in this recipe; it strikes the right balance between giving the cookie structure while maintaining a delightful softness.

Oats: Adding rolled oats lends a wonderful chewiness to the cookie and throws in a touch of nostalgia reminiscent of oatmeal cookies, but in a far more decadent form.

Chocolate Chips: The star of the show! Semi-sweet chocolate chips are essential—when they melt, they create heavenly bursts of sweetness in every bite.

Tips for Making the Perfect Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Creating the ideal giant chocolate chip cookie can feel like a delightful challenge. Picture this: you pull a warm, gooey cookie from the oven, its edges crisp yet soft in the center, and chocolate melting with every bite. To turn this dream into reality, consider these helpful tips.

Choose Quality Ingredients

  • Butter: Always opt for unsalted butter—it allows you to control the saltiness in your cookie. Bring it to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Chocolate Chips: Use a mix of semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips for depth in flavor. The blend of sweetness and slight bitterness adds a lovely complexity.

Measure Accurately

Baking is a science, so precision is vital. Use a kitchen scale for the most accurate measurements, especially with flour and sugar.

Chill Your Dough

Let the cookie dough rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This not only enhances the flavors but also prevents too much spreading, resulting in a perfectly thick giant chocolate chip cookie.

Don’t Overbake

Keep a close eye while your cookies are in the oven. They will continue to cook slightly after removing them, so a light golden color in the center is your best indicator for perfect texture.

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the art of the giant chocolate chip cookie. Happy baking!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 tbsp (90 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150 g) light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ¼ cups (150 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (90 g) rolled oats
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (175 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (85 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Mist an 8 inch springform cake pan with cake release and line the bottom with parchment paper or a reusable liner.
  2. Beat the butter, sugar and vanilla using a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or use a hand mixer).
  3. Add the egg and beat to combine, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Add a third of the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and half of the oats. Beat on low speed to combine or mix everything together with a spoon. Add the remaining flour and oats and beat or fold in.
  5. Use a wooden spoon to fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a third to place on top of your giant cookie.
  6. Press the cookie dough into the prepare pan and level.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C). Place the cake pan in the air fryer basket and bake for 25-28 minutes or until the cookie is set at the edges but still a little soft in the middle.
  8. Take the basket out of the air fryer but leave the cookie in it for five minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack and gently release from the cake pan.
  9. Preheat the oven to 360°F (180°C). Bake the cookie for 30-35 minutes or until set at the edges. Cool in the pan for at least 5 minutes before carefully transferring onto a cake plate.
  10. While the cookie is cooling, put all the ingredients for the chocolate sauce into a saucepan and heat gently, stirring until the chocolate has melted and sauce is smooth. If it is too thick you can add a splash of milk to thin it out.
  11. Slice the cookie and serve slightly warm, topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
