Description

A delicious creamy cheese sauce perfect for dipping or drizzling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (about 8 oz)
  • 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional, adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
  2. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook, whisking constantly, for about 1 minute until bubbling but not browned.
  3. Gradually add the whole milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Add Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  5. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Lower the heat to low.
  7. Add sharp cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese a handful at a time, whisking after each addition until fully melted and smooth.
  8. Stir in hot sauce (if using), taste, and add more salt if needed.
  9. Serve hot with warm pretzels, chips, or veggies.
